This coming Sunday, Rev. David J. Hanna will begin a new a sermon series Life Together.

We look forward to welcoming the new year as we worship and explore our life together as a Christian community.

The following is a summary of the series.

Ponder these words, Christian community is life together in unity. “For Jesus Christ alone is our unity…. Through him alone do we have access to one another, joy in one another, and fellowship with one another.”

These words were written by Dietrich Bonhoeffer in a book called Life Together (1954, p. 39).

In the 1930s and 1940s, with the Nazi ascension to power, Europe was falling apart around Bonhoeffer, yet he anchored his thinking in the communal aspect of Christian faith, which cannot be lived alone.

The very expression of Christian faith involves other people. To love God, we love others. To serve God, we serve others.

We claim that God’s love must be in our hearts, yet love must show up in our relationships – in the church, community, and world.

At Calvary, we say it this way: We are enriched by many voices and united in one Spirit, the spirit of a God who loves each one of us abundantly and unconditionally.

In this new sermon series, let’s explore our life together united in Christ.
