This Sunday’s worship service includes a new Sermon Series At the Table and the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
We like our potluck meals.
We enjoy our cookouts and BBQs. We look forward to our summer picnics. We celebrate special times of the year and holidays with food.
Some of Jesus’ best stories are about being at the table. There are the stories of the loaves and fish, bread and wine, Mary and Martha, tax collector and Pharisees. Of course, there is the story about the banquet when everyone backed out of their invitation.
Throughout the Gospels, it seems Jesus was either going to or coming from a meal table. Jesus was a foodie. For our next sermon series, we will consider the lessons we learn at the table with Jesus.
Rev. David J. Hanna will deliver the sermon At the Table: Levi based on Luke 5:27-32:
There is a timeless truth we need to learn from this story of Jesus at Levi’s table. Namely, Jesus deals with unrighteousness differently than we do.
Following the service, we invite all to join us in the Chalice Room next to the Sanctuary for fellowship and refreshments.
This Sunday at 9:30 a.m., Ben Fitzgerald-Fye will begin a new Christian Education class based on Walter Brueggemann’s book – Interrupting Silence: God’s Command to Speak Out. This class will run through July 1 with the week of June 17 off. Though it is not necessary to have a copy of the book to attend the class, a sign up sheet is available in the Chalice Room if you would like one to be ordered for you.
