The Congregational Nominating Committee encourages each church member to have a voice in suggesting active members to serve in leadership roles in the church.
All Elected Church Leaders:
- Be a church member
- Be engaged in the life of the faith community
- Be a witness to God’s abundant grace and love
Ruling Elder, qualifications (Book of Order, G-2.0301):
- Be a person of wisdom and maturity of faith, integrity, and sound judgment
- Be able to demonstrate leadership skills and a spirit of compassion
- Be willing to strengthen and nurture the faith and life of the congregation as well as the whole church
- Be willing to help manage the physical and financial well-being of the church
Ruling Elder, responsibilities, such as:
- Attend monthly Session meeting
- Work on a committee
- Serve Communion
- Serve as a commissioner to a Presbytery meeting
Deacon, qualifications (Book of Order, G-2.0201):
- Be a person of spiritual character, honest repute, exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, sincere compassion, and sound judgment
- Be willing to share in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, and anyone in distress
Deacon, responsibilities, such as:
- Attend monthly Board of Deacons meetings
- Serve on a standing committee
- Serve as Deacon of the Week approximately three times a year
- VIP (Very Important Presbyterians) Assignments
- Serve on Communion set-up and clean-up committee roughly three times a year
Nominating Committee Member:
This person would have a background of service to Christ through the church, knowledge of the work of the Session and the Board of Deacons, broad acquaintance with members of this congregation, and a sincere desire to assume the responsibility required.
