On Reformation Sunday, we joyfully celebrate our church’s anniversary. That day marks 216 years of dedicated worship and faithful service. Originally established in 1807 as the First Presbyterian Church, our congregation now gathers in its third building on this site. In 1958, we adopted the name Calvary, symbolizing our enduring faith. As we gather, some of our prayers echo those offered in worship services of years past. Let us honor our rich history as we continue to seek God’s guidance and grace.
In preparation for Sunday’s worship, a prayer:
Dear God, we thank you for this life and all its blessings. We are grateful for both the big and small joys, the gifts and abilities that exceed what we deserve, and the love that lies at the heart of your purpose. We pray, in the name of Jesus Christ, that we may always have hearts filled with gratitude and a strong desire to love and serve you until the end of our days. Amen.
