It is with immense delight and gratitude that I join in announcing that I have accepted the post of Director of Music Ministry at Calvary Presbyterian Church. My name is Matthew Cyphert and I am a professional vocalist, teacher of singing, choral director, pianist, and music minister. I was born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania but was raised in the Indiana area. I am a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a B.F.A., Kansas State University with a M.M., and West Virginia University with a D.M.A.
I am coming to Calvary Presbyterian from my previous post at Trinity Presbyterian Church of Clarksburg where I served as choir director and organist, and I will be bringing a lifetime of church music experience to the position. Previous positions were held at the First Presbyterian Church of Manhattan Kansas, the First Baptist Church of Glen Campbell PA, and the United Presbyterian Church of Blairsville PA.
Though I can often be found performing as a vocalist or choir director, I am also a passionate teacher of singing. I have been teaching voice for over eight years with positions held at Kansas State University and West Virginia University. I currently instruct students of voice through my private studio in Homer City, PA. As the Director of Music Ministry, I plan on utilizing a collaborative approach which will focus on congregational involvement for all those interested in spreading music ministry. Music has always been my connection to my faith, and I hope that my passions will help to promote the good word through my service. I would like to thank everyone at Calvary for the opportunity to serve the church community in this capacity and I look forward to meeting all the members of the congregation, and to serving the needs of the church.
