The Weeks Ahead

Watch Your Email!

A note from the Clerk of Session Joan Rittenberger went out to the Calvary community Wednesday, September 30. Your regularly scheduled newsletter will arrive in in-boxes Friday.

The Calvary Community Carries On

The calendar is filling up! Back to School Season is in full swing at Calvary so be sure to save room for annual traditions like the Welcome Back Breakfast (September 13) and “continuing ed” like the upcoming book study (starts September 15). And of course, Sunday School starts up again September 20. If you’re itching to move, it’s also CROP Walk season. Learn a little more during this Sunday’s Coffee Time hosted by the Mission Committee in the Chalice Room following the 11 a.m. service. This is only the half of it. Find more happenings and details on our Events page.

Preaching in the Coming Weeks: Reverend Doctor Donald R. Wilson

The Reverend Doctor Donald R. Wilson was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and grew up traveling the world as the son of a Presbyterian minister and Air Force Chaplain. When his father retired from the military his family settled in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Don attended King College in Bristol, Tennessee. He then continued his education at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, receiving his Master of Divinity Degree in 1984. In 2005, he received his Doctorate from Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Don met Becky, his wife, while he was a student at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. They were married in 1982. They have four children and four grandchildren. Becky is an active member of Calvary.

In 1985 Don was ordained at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where he served as Youth Pastor and Campus Minister at the University of Southern Mississippi. In 1987, the family moved to Middletown, Ohio, where he served as Associate Pastor for Youth and Children Ministry until his activation to the Air Force Chaplaincy in January 1989.

Throughout his military career, Don worked closely with NATO, Joint Special Operations Forces, Intelligence Organizations, Air Expeditionary, and US Army Units. Don deployed five times for over 700 days in support of US military and coalition forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. Don retired from the US Air Force in December 2011 after completing a 24-year career.

Upon his retirement from the military, Don went to work as the Associate Director at the Presbyterian Council for Chaplains and Military Personnel in Washington DC. In May 2016, Don moved here to serve as the General Presbyter for the Kiskiminetas Presbytery, a position from which he retired in 2024.
