Each academic year several IUP music students are chosen to sing in the Chancel Choir as section leaders and soloists. For their service, they receive a modest stipend, supported entirely by designated contributions from the congregation.
As IUP spring break ends and a full contingent of choral scholars returns, and we approach Holy Week and Easter services, additional contributions will be needed to keep the fund healthy through the end of this academic year and into next fall.
If you appreciate the music that you hear from the Chancel Choir, please remember that your gifts to the choral scholars program are essential to maintain this level of quality. You can contribute with a check payable to the church, noting “Choral Scholars” on the memo line.
Calvary’s music program views the inclusion of university students as a mission—encouraging and training musicians who will go on to be leaders of music programs in other churches for years to come. Our former singers have become choir directors at Presbyterian churches from New Jersey to Kansas to Arizona, and have contributed their voices to choirs scattered across the United States.
