Ash Wednesday Worship Service
Wednesday, March 6 @ 7:00 pm
Ash Wednesday is the entry point for Lenten preparation. It is a service rich in ritual and symbolism. Participants on Ash Wednesday come forward for a minister to mark their foreheads with the sign of the cross in ashes.
This years service will include prayer, music, readings from Joel 2:1-2, 12-17 and the sermon A Moment of Silence.
The traditions of the church point to Ash Wednesday as the first call to self-examination and repentance as we enter the season of Lent. It is a time to hush the noise of the world, to look beyond the busyness of life, and to take time to enter the stillness of a personal and transformative engagement with the God of our Creation. The ashes remind us of our frailty and also call us to find moments of silence to reflect on our fragility and our redemption as we walk toward the cross.
Student Pastor Ben Fitzgerald-Fye will be preaching. Rev. David J. Hanna and Rev. Richard L. Cassel will preside for the imposition of ashes.
