Calvary members are deeply committed to answering the call of Christ to help those in need. This listing on our website calendar is updated weekly to provide you with the most recent status of projects and how you can participate.
ICCAP Food CollectionsEach month Calvary donates food to the Indiana County Community Action Program (ICCAP) Food Bank. For July, our collection of easy hot weather and picnic items such as pasta salad mixes, packaged cookies, Pringles or other packaged snacks, dessert mixes, gelatin, pudding, powdered fruit drinks, sandwich and salad condiments – and it’s okay to use your imagination, just as long as products have a long shelf life. A list for the entire year is available on the Mission Table. Our collection for June weighed 131 pounds, which places us right around half of our 2,000-pound goal for 2019 – right where we should be at the six-month point. Keep that food coming in. Summer can be a difficult time, especially for children who do not have the advantage of meals at school as they do during the school year. You may drop your donations in the bins next to the Mission table in the Chalice room anytime the building is open.
Little Dresses for AfricaIn support of Mission Rwanda, Little Dress kits have been assembled and are ready for pick-up. Be sure to look through the trims and embellishments available for the dresses and help yourself. The trims may be applied as you wish, utilizing your artistic talents. In addition, we have twenty-five pre-cut kits for little shorts in sizes 4, 6, and 8, complete with elastic for the waistband. The completed dresses and shorts are due back by August 25.
In addition to monetary donations, Calvary provides for Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, we are undertaking two projects to donate hygiene kits and clean-up buckets for their efforts. We have completed our collection for the PDA Hygiene Kits and are now working on the Clean-up Buckets. The sign-up chart for specific items is posted on the center column bulletin board in the Chalice Room. Please sign a block or two on the chart for needed clean-up products and turn them in by the end of July. Use the green bin to the left of the Mission Table in the Chalice Room.
Update as of July 28: We have received nearly 60 finished dresses and several pairs of shorts but there are still a lot of kits available. We will keep the kit box full, as long as anyone is interested. Happy sewing! Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA)
Update as of July 28: The following items are still needed to fill up 10 five-gallon clean-up buckets: five scouring pads, two scrub brushes, six bottles of household cleaner, five 50-count bags of clip clothespins, 30 dust masks, 12 pairs of heavy-duty latex-free gloves, five pairs of work gloves, and 70 household sponges (available in multi-packs). Items are due by August 4 so that we can assemble the kits on the evening of August 7.
Back to School BashThe Indiana County Back to School Bash will be held on Saturday, August 17. If you would like to follow the news and updates on this community project, you can follow along on the B2SB Facebook Page. While you are there, why not give the Facebook page a “Like” to show your support. Calvary members support this event by collecting items that will be provided to the participants and volunteering on the day of the event. We are accepting Volunteer Applications on the Mission Table. You may also want to start hunting for bargains because during the month of July when we will emphasize a different Back to School Bash need each Sunday as follows: July 7 – Happy Feet Sunday (all sizes and descriptions of socks for children and youth, including large) July 14 – Backpack Bootie Sunday (school supplies for the backpacks from the lists available on the Mission Table) July 21 – Funday Sunday (card and board games, puzzle books and jigsaw puzzles to be assembled into three large gift baskets for the door prize table) July 28 – Individually packaged snacks or wrapped “fruit-flavored” candy (to be used as game prizes)
Volunteers are always sought, and you may submit a volunteer application for pre-event jobs, event-day tasks, and post-event tasks. Monetary donations will be accepted, and checks should be written payable to Calvary with B2SB on the memo line. Many hands and donations of all kinds lighten the workload and make this wonderful event possible! August 4 will be “Be Our Guest Sunday”.
SAVE THE DATE It will be Calvary Day at Hoss’s Steak and Sea all day on Thursday, August 22, benefiting CROP Hunger Walk. Hoss’s Cash Cow cards will be distributed in August.
