June Mission Projects
Monday, June 17
An event every week that begins at 12:00 am on Monday, repeating until Monday June 24, 2019
ICCAP Food Collection
Each month Calvary collects food for the Indiana County Community Action Program (ICCAP) Food Bank. This month we are collecting canned vegetables, all sizes and types, including all varieties of beans both canned and dry, pasta mixes, rice, and rice mixes.
You may drop your donations in the bins next to the Mission table in the Chalice room anytime the building is open.
It is always wonderful to hear from Kay Day, Presbyterian Mission co-worker in Rwanda since 2013. Please click here for Kay’s June 2019 prayer letter.
Little Dresses for Africa
In support of Mission Rwanda, seventy-five Little Dress kits have been assembled and are ready for pick-up. Be sure to look through the trims and embellishments available for the dresses and help yourself. The trims may be applied as you wish, utilizing your artistic talents. In addition, we have twenty-five pre-cut kits for little shorts in sizes 4, 6, and 8, complete with elastic for the waistband. The completed dresses and shorts are due back by August 25. We will keep the kit box full, as long as anyone is interested. Happy sewing!
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA)
In addition to monetary donations we provide for Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Calvary is undertaking two projects to donate hygiene kits and clean-up buckets for their efforts.
We have already initiated work on our goal to collect enough items to assemble 50 PDA Hygiene Kits. During June we hope to complete the collection of items needed for the kits. As for the end of May, we completed collection of combs, toothbrushes, bar soap and band-aids, but we’re still in need of hand towels, washcloths, and nail clippers. We are grateful for all the donations and supplies are filling up quickly, so please visit the Mission Table in the Chalice Room or contact the Church Office to see what items we continue to need.
In July and August, we will concentrate on items for the Clean-up Buckets.
Back to School Bash
The Indiana County Back to School Bash will be held on Saturday, August 17. If you would like to follow the news and updates on this community project, you can follow along on the B2SB Facebook Page. While you are there, why not give the Facebook page a “Like” to show your support.
To participate in Calvary’s efforts for this program, volunteer applications will be mailed in June to everyone who volunteered in 2018. If you did not volunteer last year but are interested in volunteering this year, applications will be available on the Mission Table for the Back to School Bash. We’ll begin gearing up our own activities next month with special July Sunday collection days.
Be Prepared To Help Those in Need
Here’s an idea you can do on your own, totally independent of the Calvary Mission Program. Purchase a few $5 gift cards at your favorite fast food restaurant and keep them in your wallet. There are times you are asked for some help or want to observe a need or reward a kind deed. A $5 card to buy a light meal might be just the thing to light up the life of someone. Try it. You don’t have to report back or sign-up or register, and it is not bulky or cumbersome; it is just something you might want to do on your own as part of your ongoing commitment to reaching out to those in need.
