Monday, October 21 All day
Calvary’s Mission activités are ongoing throughout the year. This listing is routinely updated to provide you the status of our projects do. Please check back each week for updates and ways you can become involved.
ICCAP Food Collections
Let’s feel the spirit of Thanksgiving with October’s collection for ICCAP (Indiana County Community Action Program) which represents the makings of a Thanksgiving dinner (except for the turkey). We always begin early on this collection because we must turn in the donated food to ICCAP by November 1 for distribution in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Some idea starters are as follows: boxed mashed potatoes and stuffing, canned cranberries, vegetables and fruits, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, applesauce, gravy, brown and white sugar, pumpkin spices, canned milk, mushroom soup, onion rings, pie crust mix and other dessert mixes. Please be generous with your donations as needs are great at the ICCAP food pantries.
Blankets for Arcadia
Our 46 blankets, spreads, afghans, sleeping bags and quilts were well received by Arcadia Food Bank on October 4. Arcadia Presbyterian Church once had a long list of churches who donated food and blankets; now, we are told, they are down to a list of five churches, and we are privileged to be counted as one of them. They send their thanks for your donations. In January, food donations from the entire month will go to Arcadia Food Bank. Even though the community is decreasing, the need is still there.
2019 Hurricane Response Assistance
Our Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Hygiene Kits and Clean-up Buckets are already being distributed to those in need, but if you would like to send a check on your own, please write “2019 Hurricane Response” in the memo section of your check and send it to Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), P.O. Box 643700, Pittsburgh, PA 15264-3700. To give by telephone, call (800) 872-3283 or to give online go to pda.pcusa.org.
Trades of Hope
Janet Davis Treacy, Compassionate Entrepreneur and Calvary member, has generously offered to donate a commission from Trades of Hope orders this fall and holiday season to Rally for Rwanda. Please consider Trades of Hope for holiday gift-giving. Every Fair Trade gift purchased is providing sustainable income to women around the world. Several catalogs are available on the Mission table. Please leave those copies on the table, but you can view the online catalog, at www.mytradesofhope/JanetDavisTreacy. Janet will happily answer questions or help you place an order.
In addition, two Calvary members hosted a Trades of Hope party and have donated their free product prizes to the Mission Committee to offer for sale. All proceeds from any sales will be given to Rally for Rwanda. Even though Christmas giving is two months away, perhaps you would like to take advantage of these displayed gift items. Please see Kay Smith, Becky Becker or Janet Treacy if you are interested in any of these items or catalog items. In today’s world, it seems like it’s never too early to start your Christmas shopping.
We are collecting men’s cotton socks for Tomorrow’s Hope in Coalport, PA, through November 3. Black or white, one-size-fits-all, tube socks are requested. We have already received about 40 pairs of socks and will happily accept more. The socks will be delivered to this transitional housing and service organization for veterans of our U.S. Armed Forces, prior to Veteran’s Day, November 11.
CROP Hunger Walk
As of October 14, nearly $5,000 has been posted to Church World Service (CWS) as a result of last week’s Indiana County CROP Hunger Walk. Our account will be open until October 31; therefore, if you still want to give, there is still time. Please write checks payable to Church World Service and place them in the offering. Becky Becker, CROP Treasurer, will forward your checks to CWS. Currently Calvary and Trinity’s totals are running very close for the coveted golden shoe award. All monies are forwarded to CWS and when we submit our final report on October 31, 25% of our total deposits will be returned to Indiana Community Action Program (ICCAP) to restock food warehouse shelves. Thank you for your generous support. It was a beautiful day and lots of fun.
