ICCAP FOOD COLLECTIONS
For our September’s food collections, let’s think about hot foods. Some suggestions are cans of soup or stew, dry soup mixes, hot cereals, canned ingredients for chili, pasta, and noodle meal kits, stewed tomatoes, any canned vegetables and broth that could be the basis of a soup.
Let’s get in the spirit of fall with October’s food collection for ICCAP which represents the makings of a Thanksgiving dinner (except for the turkey). We always begin early on this collection because we must turn in the donated food to ICCAP by November 1 for distribution in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Some idea starters are boxed mashed potatoes, stuffing, pie crust mix, dessert mixes, canned cranberries, vegetables, fruits, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, applesauce, gravy, canned milk, mushroom soup, onion rings, brown and white sugar, pumpkin spices.
CROP Hunger Walk
The annual Indiana County CROP Hunger Walk will be on Sunday, October 13, with registration beginning at 12:30 p.m. and the Walk at 1:00 p.m. Collection envelopes and other materials are available on the Mission Table in the Chalice Room.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Crop Hunger Walk, first held in York, Pennsylvania, in 1970 and one year after the first similar, but an unnamed event, which took place in Bismarck, N.D.
Money collected through CROP Hunger Walk is divided with 75% of donations designated for world hunger projects and 25%, local, in our case,
