Many thanks to the IUP Orchestra for their amazing concert at Calvary Presbyterian Church. As you can see, the concert was enjoyed by many!
On Friday evening, March 3, at 7:30 p.m. the IUP Orchestra, led by Rebekah O’Brien, presented a free concert in Calvary’s newly renovated sanctuary. The concert featured the combined power of the full orchestra and Calvary’s 40-rank pipe organ, played by organists Dr. Christine Clewell and Marissa Bruno. The program included pieces by Elgar and Saint-Saëns and was highlighted by the world premiere of Roger Zare’s organ concerto Refuge(e), a new work about the innocent children whose lives have been turned upside down by war, violence, oppression, or natural disaster, and who must flee their homelands to seek refuge elsewhere. Woven into the music were children’s folk songs from Venezuela, Korea, and Afghanistan.
A beautiful thank you card was sent to us from the Orchestra.
