Calvary Presbyterian Church maintains a multifaceted connection with a variety of missions and participates in local and worldwide programs throughout the year.
The holiday season is a critical time for many individuals and families in need, and this year we are participating in the following programs:
Angels’ Wings is a festive hands-on project sponsored by the Indiana Gazette. It provides several families identified by the ICCAP each year a family Christmas celebration. Children under 18 in each adopted family receive at least five gifts and a Christmas stocking. Parents each receive a practical gift plus gift cards to pay for food to make a holiday dinner. This year Calvary is adopting six families consisting of 12 children and 10 adults, two of whom are veterans. Our Angels’ Wing Christmas Tree is located in the Chalice Room where ornaments containing specific gift requests are hung and where gifts will be placed until they are delivered to the program sponsors in mid-December.
ICCAP Food Pantries collect and distribute food to those in need throughout the year. Calvary members are continuing an effort to donate one ton of food to ICCAP by the end of the year. We are currently collecting some basics, including sauerkraut, canned fruits, veggies, soups, flour, sugar, coffee, tea bags, drinks, hot chocolate mix and any size or variety of Dawn dish soap. Gifts can be dropped off in the Chalice Room anytime the Church is open. As ICAAP identifies new needs, the list may be adjusted and new information will be provided in the Sunday bulletin.
Family Promise, a local organization dedicated to helping homeless families, is holding a fundraiser as part of weekend activities for the Indiana It’s A Wonderful Life Festival the weekend of December 9-11 by hosting a booth at the IRMC Park. Building on the weekend theme, “An old Fashioned Christmas,” churches who make up the Family Promise Interfaith Hospitality Network, including Calvary, are being asked to make old fashioned treats to sell at the booth. A sign-up list is available on the Welcome Table in the Chalice Room along with a packet of suggested treats. Calvary is a Family Promise host church and provides food and shelter to homeless families identified through the program at select times during the year.
The Presbyterian Giving Catalogue provides an opportunity to sponsor a gift for programs around the world that serve those in need. Your gift can be made in the name of someone who would be grateful to receive the gift of helping others. Generous gifts to the program are signs of our gratitude feeding the hungry, comforting the broken-hearted and shoring our faith with young and old. A limited number of catalogues are available in the Chalice Room at the Calvary or you may shop and make your orders by visiting the online catalogue.
