At 695 School Street, Indiana PA
The Mission and Outreach Committee is grateful to report that both Christ Episcopal and Zion Lutheran Churches continue to contribute to our Outdoor Community Food Pantry. Calvary members are ever faithful in their giving to this important work to help those facing food insecurities. We are distributing in excess of 1300 pounds of food per month, up from 375 pounds just 5 months ago! Several economic factors have caused an increase in need around the county and our pantry is no different.
The Outdoor Community Food Pantry sits on School Street at the entrance to Calvary Presbyterian Church, Indiana, PA. Thanks to the generosity of the Houser family and A & A Construction & Home Improvements, the cupboard stands ready to supply those in need. This food pantry program serves those without enough food in our community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, while preserving their dignity. Because no tracking of the recipients is done, however, no government funds or surplus foods can be sought for the pantry. It relies solely on the generosity of many who continue to meet the needs of our neighbors.
Currently there are seventeen tireless volunteers who keep the shelves stocked in any weather and even during holidays. What a wonderful blessing each of you are to this ministry. And to all the individuals who quietly donate money and items to the food bank repeatedly, we could NOT continue without your selfless giving and caring for those who are struggling to deal with rising costs and diminishing resources. Thank you so much to everyone for sharing your gifts and talents in this mission work.
If you have not had an opportunity to be involved with the pantry yet, consider bringing one or more of these items for the pantry any and every time you come by. We always need:
- cereal & oatmeal
- peanut butter & jelly & saltines
- canned soups with meat
- canned veggies
- canned fruits
- canned tuna fish, salmon or chicken
- mac and cheese
- beef stews & chili
- powdered milk packets
- pasta
- pasta sauce with meat
- soap
- shampoo
- toilet paper
- paper towels
- baby wipes
- dishwashing soap
- laundry detergent
- tooth paste & toothbrushes
- monetary donations are also always helpful
There is a red plastic tub outside the church entrance on School St. where you can drop your donations. We thank you in advance for your help. It truly does take a village of God’s people to make a difference in our world.
