This Sunday, May 5, we celebrate the third Sunday in Easter in worship including the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
We welcome newcomers and visitors to join us for worship, which is traditional in style and contemporary in spirit, friendly and graciously welcoming, relaxed and engaging. The service includes contributions from members and clergy alike who lead us in a weekly expression of our faith with warm greetings, fine music, a children’s talk and sermons aimed at helping us understand how the teachings of the Bible can be applied to our lives today.
The service will include warm greetings, prayer, fine music, a reading from John 21:1-19 and the sermon “Feed My Sheep”.
Jesus, risen and victorious, greets his disciples and offers a seemingly simple instruction to Simon Peter, “feed my sheep.” Throughout his physical time among us, we have referred to Christ as a shepherd and now it appears that, here on earth anyway Christ is asking us to continue this work. It is a commissioning, a charge to engage the needs of the flock in both spiritual and practical ways. For us, it is a call to “feed my sheep” and to embrace every challenge, truth, and tough choice that arises from our dedication to doing so. How can we, the church, feed these sheep in a way that honors the calling of Jesus?
Student Pastor Ben Fitzgerald-Fye will be preaching. Rev. David J. Hanna will preside for the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
Following the service we welcome all to join us in the Chalice Room next to the Sanctuary for refreshments and fellowship.
